Useful Info is currently developing a mobile internet portal for London. http://m.usefulinfo.co.uk/london which lists websites which can be viewed using a mobile phone browser. To be viewable using mobile phones, websites must be designed using XHTML.

However, if a web page is too large for a particular mobile phone web browser or images are too large or the design is unsuitable, then the page won’t load or be readable. Therefore websites need to be designed for the mobile internet in mind or have pages designed specifically for mobile internet web browsers.
Useful Info did develop some of the first WAP directories for the UK back in 2001 www.i2001.co.uk (don’t click - no longer active) but there was no advertising or affiliate programs available for WAP pages and the take-up of WAP was poor meaning few users. These WAP directories existed until 2004 when they were pulled.
Four years on in 2008, Google Adsense now provides advertising for mobile internet pages designed in XHTML or WAP providing some revenue and traditional affiliate marketing which tracks sales via cookies should work mobile internet web browsers. So it would be good if problems with listed sites could be detailed in a comment below so that the site can be removed. The aim of the directory is to list only sites that can be accessed OK with a mobile phone web browser so that users of the directory have a rewarding and fulfilling mobile internet surfing.
