Lecht Plan to Open This Weekend 31 Oct to 2 Nov 2008

After snowfalls last night added to snowfalls of the last few days, the Lecht have announced that they plan to open three uplift this weekend Friday 31 October to Sunday 2 November weather permitting: Eagle1, Grouse pomas and the Snowy Owl chairlift.

Not only is it unusual to have any skiing available during October, but the Lecht is the Scottish ski centre with the lowest altitude so this has indeed been an exceptional October snowfall. With superb snow conditions available in Scotland during late April 2008, the summer season without Scottish skiing looks set to be unsually short this year. Snowfall early and late in the season in Scotland as we have seen this year shows global warming is no impediment to Scottish skiing at the moment. As always, it just needs appropriate weather patterns to deliver snow in late, April, October or mid-winter. Weather patterns are incredibly variable and mean the snows come and go.

You can check out the snow conditions at the Lecht at Ski Scotland.
