Snow has been a feature of the weather several times during the autumn with snowfall of 28th October the heaviest and most extensive in southern England since 1880 according to Philip Eden. The Lecht Ski Centre has opened on two weekends and provided mid-week skiing too and Cainrngorm has also been open the weekend of 1 & 2 November.
With futher snowfalls during the last few days, December 2008 has begun with a wintry theme. However, according to weather forecasts, the snowfall tomorrow, Thursday 4 December is likely to be the heaviest and most disruptive we have seen in the UK for some years with up to 20 cm expected on high ground and 2 to 5cm widely on low ground from northern England northwards.
