BUYING/FREE GPRS MOBILE PHONES ONLINE UK: VODAFONE; ORANGE; O2.

GPRS "always on" connection means that you pay for data transfer rather than connection per minute as with existing WAP services.  The different networks provide a monthly data transfer quota for a monthly charge and any additional data transfer is charged pro-rata. GPRS transfer rates are from 9-40 kb per minute which compares well with  a 33kb land-line modem. This enables you to connect to the Internet and send and receive emails using your laptop and GPRS mobile from anywhere you can get a signal on your mobile. GPRS mobiles either communicate with a laptop via an infrared port or via a USB cable. Both laptops and GPRS mobiles can be equipped with either or both of these connection types.

IF you use WAP a lot, it is likely to work out much cheaper if you use a GPRS phone and subscribe to a GPRS service rather than paying per minute for your calls.

AS with any other mobiles, the handsets can be FREE so it is worth shopping round on the Internet to find the best offers! Below are links to a range of GPRS mobiles currently available in the UK listing mobile phone retailers which offer the handsets for FREE!
